Excel, Inc. was founded in Okolona, Mississippi in 1988 with the purpose of furthering education, promoting community building, encouraging community service and fostering healthy lives. From its beginning, Excel has been committed to racial, religious and economic inclusiveness at every level: leadership, planning and participation.

Excel Commons Family Community Center is the heart of Main Street in Okolona.  What began as a  summer youth program in three borrowed classrooms in 1988, has turned a former department store into the community hub. Children’s enrichment, senior wellness and GED certification classes are the core of Excel’s programs, while a community gym, computer lab and commons room are open to all in need. Excel Commons also includes a resale shop, coffee shop and Catholic Center. Some services are also offered at our other Mississippi  locations in Calhoun City and Morton.
